On October 11, 2022, after a two-day trial, a Jackson County jury found Dion Neal, 46, guilty of Sexual Battery and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case.
Judge Kathy King Jackson sentenced Neal, on both counts, to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath stated, “We were confident the citizens of Jackson County would see the truth and they did. Our community is safer with Dion Neal in prison for life without parole. He is a violent and dangerous offender who will never victimize another person again.”
Assistant District Attorney Carolyn Lewis stated, “We want to commend the hard work of Investigator Kristen Johnson and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Without their dedication to investigating and uncovering the truth, victims, as in this case, would not get justice.”
Assistant District Attorney Nikki Huffman stated, “The victim endured a violent attack by the Defendant. She was held at gunpoint and sexually assaulted. Her will to survive and bravery in telling her story impacted us all. It was a privilege to fight for this victim in and out of the courtroom.”
Assistant District Attorney Jason Davis stated, “We are thankful for the two men who heard the victim’s cries for help and came to her rescue. They are heroes.”
This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Carolyn Lewis, Nikki Huffman and Jason Davis.
